Gunite pools

Fully custom concrete pools. Any shape, any depth, with ledges, spas and edges built into the shell.

How we build it

Gunite is concrete sprayed over a steel cage that is bent to your exact design. It is the most flexible way to build a pool: long lap lanes, curved lagoons, sun shelves, beach entries, raised spas and vanishing edges all start here.

It also takes the longest. A gunite pool is built in place over 10 to 14 weeks, by our own crew for the steel, plumbing and shoot. We tell you which week each stage lands and send a photo update every Friday.

Drawn to scale for your family

The pool in section

Depth decides how a pool gets used: lounging, games, laps or jumping in. We draw it before we dig, so everyone agrees where the shallow end ends.

Typical section: tanning ledge, 3 ft 6 in shallow end, 5 ft 6 in deep end. Every depth is drawn for your family.Swipe the drawing sideways to see all of it.

What it costs

Real ranges from our recent Austin-area projects. Your proposal turns them into one written number.

Full pool cost guide

  • Classic gunite pool $75,000–$95,000 About 15 x 30 ft, plaster finish, concrete deck, standard equipment
  • Upgraded interior and edge +$9,000–$18,000 Pebble or quartz finish, glass or porcelain tile, travertine coping
  • Tanning ledge with bubblers +$4,500–$9,000 Shallow sun shelf for loungers and small kids, under adult supervision
  • Vanishing (infinity) edge +$25,000–$60,000 Needs a real drop in grade and a catch basin; engineered per site
  • Rock excavation, if we hit it $3,000–$15,000 Hill Country limestone; billed per load at the rate printed in your contract

Ranges are for typical Austin-area backyards with machine access. Steep slopes, retaining walls, tight access and HOA material rules can move the number. You see all of it in the written proposal before you sign.

Questions about gunite

Gunite or shotcrete: what is the difference?

Both are sprayed concrete. Gunite is mixed with water at the nozzle; shotcrete arrives wet from a truck. Built well, both make a strong shell. We choose based on access and schedule and tell you which one your pool gets.

How often does a gunite pool need refinishing?

Plaster usually lasts 10 to 15 years; pebble finishes often last 15 to 20. Water chemistry makes the biggest difference, which is why pool school covers it.

Can you build a deep end for diving?

Most backyard pools are not built for diving, and we do not add boards or diving rocks. We are happy to build a deeper area for jumping and swimming, drawn to the depth you choose.
