Who we are
Ros MacIsaac spent ten years writing repair estimates for insurance claims. She saw the same thing again and again: families who called a restoration company in the middle of the night, reached a recording, and spent the next week not knowing what was happening in their own home.
In 2009 she started Harbour & Hearth with one truck and a simple rule: a person answers every call. Today we run 6 crews out of a shop and contents warehouse on Windmill Road in Dartmouth, and the rule has not changed.
We are not the biggest company in the city. We would rather be the one that explains things clearly, shows its readings, and is honest about arrival times and insurance, even when the honest answer is "we don't know yet."
What we stand for
Answer Every call reaches a person, any hour. If we cannot get there quickly, we say so and help you find someone who can.
Measure We show readings, photos and notes. Decisions about your home are made on evidence, not on how big the invoice could be.
Explain Plain words about the work, the cost and the insurance process. No pressure to sign anything on the spot.
Respect Your home, your belongings and your time. Floors protected, boxes labelled, calls returned.
Four promises we can keep
-
Promise 1
A person answers
Every call to the emergency line reaches a trained coordinator, any hour. No phone tree and no call-back queue.
-
Promise 2
A real arrival window
We tell you when a crew can actually be there, based on where they are tonight. In the urban core we aim for 90 minutes or less.
-
Promise 3
Readings, not guesses
We measure moisture every day and show you the numbers. Dry means it matches the unaffected parts of your home.
-
Promise 4
Straight talk on insurance
We explain how claims usually work and document everything. Your insurer decides what is covered, and we will never pretend otherwise.
The people on the line
A small team, most of whom you will meet or talk to if you call us.
-
Ros MacIsaac
Founder and operations lead
Started Harbour & Hearth in 2009 after ten years estimating insurance repairs. Still takes a night on the emergency line every week.
-
Dev Anand
Night coordinator
Answers the emergency line overnight and dispatches the crews. Known for calm questions and honest arrival windows.
-
Claire Boudreau
Mould and air quality lead
Runs every mould containment set-up and writes the reports buyers and inspectors read.
-
Sam Okafor
Water and drying lead
Reads moisture maps for a living. Will not pull a dehumidifier until the numbers say so.
-
Hélène Arsenault
Contents manager
Leads pack-outs, inventories and the cleaning facility. Treats keepsakes like her own.
-
Gord Fraser
Rebuild lead
Turns a dried-out room back into a finished one: drywall, paint, trim and flooring.
How we hold ourselves to account
-
Insured and covered
Liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage for every crew member. Certificates on request.
-
Trained to published standards
Our technicians train to the industry's published standards for water damage and mould remediation, and refresh that training every year.
-
Background-checked crews
Everyone who enters your home has a current background check and wears ID.
-
Calibrated equipment
Moisture meters are checked every month, so the readings you see are readings you can trust.
