Sourdough classes

Monthly classes for home bakers

Sourdough Basics — $135 / 4 hours
For first-time sourdough bakers or those struggling with consistency. Day at the bakery: starter management, dough mixing, shaping, scoring, baking. Take home 2 loaves you baked yourself + a starter.
Intermediate Sourdough — $185 / 5 hours
For bakers who’ve baked sourdough before. Specific techniques: hydration adjustment, shaping different breads, troubleshooting, advanced fermentation control. Take home 3 different loaves.
Specialty Bread Workshops — $165-225
Quarterly specialty workshops. Recent: Rye Bread Mastery, Brioche + Enriched Doughs, Country Loaf Deep Dive, Working with Whole Grains. Specific topics announced 6 weeks in advance.
Croissant Class — $245 / 6 hours
Croissant + viennoiserie laminated dough class. Long day; ambitious. Take home 6 fresh croissants + technique to make them at home.
Class size + format
8-10 students per class. Hands-on at the bakery (Mission location). All ingredients + tools provided. Apron + recipe pack to take home.
Booking + cancellation
Book 4-6 weeks in advance via events page. Cancellation up to 14 days for full refund; less than 14 days: $25 fee. Classes occasionally sell out months in advance for popular topics.

Beyond classes

Annual Bread + Cheese Dinner — September
Annual cheese + bread dinner. Larder breads paired with Bay Area cheese producers. Plus wine + cured meats. ~30 guests. Held at Berkeley location. Specific cheesemaker often in attendance.
Holiday Bake-Along — November + December
Pre-Thanksgiving + pre-Christmas baking events. Recipes you can replicate at home. Specific holiday bread + pastry techniques.
Sourdough Symposium — annual
1-day educational event. Multiple workshops + tastings + speakers. ~80 attendees. Held at Mission location. Mission Bay Sourdough Network co-hosts.
Garden + bakery dinner — May + September
2x annual bakery-themed dinner with paired wines + foods. Held at our test kitchen (separate space). 16 guests. Sells out months in advance.
Cheese Board collaboration — quarterly
Quarterly collaboration with Cheese Board Collective (Berkeley). Specific bread + pizza events. Berkeley location. Sometimes joint workshops.
Apprentice graduation — twice yearly
Apprenticeship program graduation events. Public; community welcome. Showcases breads + pastries from new graduating bakers.
Private events

Buyout + custom

Private classes for groups 6-12
Custom-scheduled sourdough or specialty classes for private groups. Birthdays, anniversaries, team-building. From $1,200 minimum (8-10 people).
Bakery cafe buyout
Buy out either café for private event. Saturday afternoon (3pm-6pm) or Sunday afternoon (3pm-6pm). $4,000-6,000 depending on attendance. Limited dates available.
Catering for private events
Catering for events 25+ people. Specific catering page details. Bread + pastry + light grocery for events. Pickup or local delivery.
Cooking classes for corporate teams
Corporate team-building events. Customizable: 4-hour sourdough class for 10-15 employees. $185 + 25/person tuition. Plus optional dinner add-on.
Wedding + birthday cake orders
Cakes + custom breads for special events. 4-week lead time minimum. Specific cake decorator collaborations available. Email events@larderbakery.com.
Cookbook signings + author events
Limited author events for cookbooks + food writing. Past events: Sarah Marsh’s sourdough cookbook (2022); Chad Robertson event (2023). Larger events held at Mission location.
