Just a phone
number.
We don’t take orders online. We take them by phone, by 4 pm the day before you’d like to pick up. We hold a slip with your name on it; you pay at the counter. The shop is small enough that this works.
- Step 1
Call by 4 pm
Phone the shop the day before. (415) 555-0148 for Mission, (415) 555-0149 for Polk. Tell us the loaf, the day, your name.
- Step 2
We hold it
Your name goes on a slip in the front bin. We bake to count + 4, so reservations don't displace walk-ins; it just secures yours.
- Step 3
Pick up before 1 pm
Bread holds best fresh. Most morning bread is gone by lunch — we expect reservations picked up by 1. After 1, we release to walk-ins.
- Step 4
Pay at the counter
Cash or card. No deposit. No app. No order number. We know your name and your loaf — we hand it across the counter.
The bread
finder.
Tell us how you eat bread, what you’re using it for, how fast it disappears. We’ll match you to one of six. Most regulars find their loaf the first time; a few never leave the rye.
Why no online ordering?
We tried. The system encouraged people to order ten loaves Friday afternoon for Saturday morning, then no-show. Phone calls feel different. People show up.
Can I pre-order pastry?
We don't reserve pastries. They sell at the rate they sell, fairly. The kouign-amann is gone by 9 — that's the deal. Bread we'll hold; pastry we won't.
Whole-grain country loaf options?
Yes — call for whole-grain or seeded. We don't list those on the chalkboard but we bake 2 — 3 of each daily for reservations.
Day-of changes?
Call before noon and we can usually swap your reservation to a different bread. Inside noon and we already started preparing it for you.
Pickup at the other store?
Yes — we run a transfer trip at 11:30 daily. Call by 9 if you want a Mission loaf at the Polk store, or vice versa.
How early can I pick up?
We open 7:30. The first batch out of the oven is 7:00 — 7:15. If you call your reservation in for 7:30 sharp, you'll get warm bread.
