Why are my shopping ads not showing?

Short answer

Shopping ads usually stop showing because of a Merchant Center problem, not the Google Ads campaign itself: disapproved products, a missing GTIN, a price or availability mismatch with your site, an account-level policy issue, or a campaign that is limited by budget. Check the Diagnostics tab in Merchant Center first for the exact reason.

Key facts

  • Google Merchant Center's Diagnostics tab lists every product level and account level issue currently affecting your feed, including the specific disapproval reason for each product.
  • A missing or invalid GTIN, the manufacturer's global trade item number, is one of the most common reasons an individual product gets disapproved, since Google requires it for most categories to verify what the item is.
  • Google periodically checks that the price and availability on your product feed match what actually shows on your website when a shopper lands there, and a mismatch can pause the ad for that product until it is corrected.
  • A Shopping campaign showing the status Limited by budget is technically running and eligible, but capped by your daily budget so it is not showing on every eligible search, which looks identical to not showing at all from a shopper's side.
  • An account level policy suspension in Merchant Center pauses every product feed tied to that account at once, which looks like every individual Shopping ad stopped simultaneously even though the actual cause is one account wide issue.

The Problem Is Usually In Merchant Center, Not Google Ads

Shopping ads pull their product data directly from a feed managed in Google Merchant Center, and the Google Ads campaign itself only decides how much to bid and who to show that feed to. When Shopping ads stop showing, the actual cause is far more often something in Merchant Center than a setting inside the Google Ads campaign.

Open the Diagnostics tab inside Merchant Center first. It lists every current issue, split between account level problems that affect your whole feed and product level problems that affect individual items, along with the specific reason for each. This is a faster and more accurate starting point than guessing based on the Google Ads interface alone.

Note whether the issue is flagged at the account level or the product level, since that tells you whether you are dealing with one problem affecting everything, or many separate smaller issues across individual products that each need their own fix.

Individual Product Disapprovals

A single disapproved product simply will not show as a Shopping ad, regardless of how the rest of the campaign is performing. The most frequent specific causes are a missing or invalid GTIN, which Google requires for most product categories to verify what the item is, an unclear or missing product image, or attributes that do not match Google's Shopping ads policies for that category.

Click into the specific disapproval reason listed in Merchant Center's Diagnostics tab for that product rather than assuming it is a generic feed error; Google states the exact attribute or policy the product failed on, and the fix is almost always specific to that one stated reason.

After correcting the feed data, Google needs to recrawl and re-review the product, which is not instant, so give it a day or two after a fix before assuming it did not work.

Price And Availability Mismatches With Your Site

Google periodically checks that the price and stock status listed in your product feed actually match what a shopper sees when they land on that product page on your website. If your feed says a product is fifty dollars and in stock, but the live page shows sixty dollars or out of stock, Google can pause that product's Shopping ad until the mismatch is resolved.

This is a common problem for stores that update prices or run sales directly on the website without updating the feed, or where the feed only refreshes on a schedule and briefly falls out of sync during a fast moving promotion or a stock change.

If your store platform has an automated feed connection, confirm it is actually running on schedule and not stalled; a feed that silently stopped updating weeks ago can leave every product showing outdated, mismatched data without any obvious error on your end.

Budget Limits And Account Level Suspensions

If Merchant Center shows no issues at all, check the Google Ads campaign status directly. A Shopping campaign marked Limited by budget is technically active and approved, but your daily spending cap is holding back how many of those auctions it can actually enter, which can look identical to not showing at all from a shopper's perspective.

Separately, check for an account level suspension notice in Merchant Center, which can happen for a policy violation unrelated to any single product, such as a website-wide issue with your returns policy, contact information, or checkout process. An account suspension pauses every product in the feed at once, which explains why it can feel like everything stopped showing simultaneously.

Merchant Center will state the specific reason for an account suspension directly in the Account issues section; read that notice fully before making changes, since fixing the wrong thing will not lift the suspension and requesting another review too early can add unnecessary delay.
