Why is my Wix site not ranking?

Short answer

A Wix site usually fails to rank because Google has no reason to trust it yet, not because of Wix. New domains with template text, default page titles, no Google Business Profile link, and no mentions elsewhere on the web sit behind older competitors. Rule out the settings first, then build the trust signals Google needs.

Key facts

  • A site on the free Wix plan lives on a wixsite.com address with Wix branding. You need a paid plan to connect your own domain, and the domain you own is the one that should collect rankings and links.
  • Wix has an SEO Setup Checklist and a per-page SEO panel where you set the title tag, meta description, and URL slug. Until you edit them, pages carry the default page name as their title.
  • Wix creates your sitemap.xml automatically and includes a robots.txt editor in its SEO tools, so a blocked page is almost always a setting someone switched, not a platform limit.
  • Each Wix page has a switch to hide it from search engines. A hidden page carries a noindex tag, and Google will not show it no matter how good the content is.
  • Wix connects to Google Search Console from its SEO dashboard. Search Console is the only place that shows which of your pages Google has indexed and which searches they appear for.

Rule out the settings first

Start with the things that stop Google before it even reads your site. A site on the free Wix plan sits on a wixsite.com address with a Wix banner. Google can index it, but it is not your domain, and every link and mention you earn goes to an address you do not own. Upgrade and connect your domain before doing anything else.

Then open each page's SEO settings in the Wix editor and look at three things: the switch that hides the page from search engines, the title tag, and the URL slug. Pages hidden by accident are common on sites that were built in a hurry. Titles that still read 'Home' or 'Services' tell Google nothing about what you sell or where.

Run the SEO Setup Checklist inside Wix. It walks through connecting Google Search Console and setting a homepage title. Once Search Console is connected, the Pages report tells you exactly which URLs are indexed. If your pages are indexed and titled properly, the settings are not your problem, and the real cause is the next section.

Google has no reason to trust the site yet

Most Wix sites that are indexed but nowhere in the results are new domains with nothing behind them. Google decides where to place a page by comparing it with every other page that could answer the same search. The competitors above you have older domains, a Google Business Profile full of reviews, mentions on supplier and association sites, and pages that talk about your city in detail.

A Wix site built from a template usually launches with the template's structure and thin copy: a homepage, an About page, a Contact page, and maybe a single Services page. There is no page for 'furnace repair' or 'wedding photography prices' or the suburb you drive to most. There are no links pointing in. Nobody has written about the business anywhere else.

That gap is the root cause, and it is not a Wix problem. The same site on any other platform would sit in the same place. The good news is that the gap can be closed, and the platform will not hold you back while you close it.

Build the signals in this order

First, claim and complete your Google Business Profile with the same business name, address, and phone number your Wix site shows. Add real photos, choose the right primary category, and ask every happy customer for a review. For local searches, the map results come from that profile, not from your site.

Second, write one page per service you want to be found for, and one page per area where you can truthfully describe your work. Each needs its own title tag, a plain heading, and content a customer would read: what it costs, how long it takes, what is included, what happens next. Replace the template text everywhere it still appears.

Third, get your business listed where your competitors are listed: the local chamber of commerce, trade associations, supplier directories, and the review sites your industry uses. Each listing is a small signal that the business is real and located where you say.

Fourth, connect Google Analytics 4 and track form sends and phone taps. Ranking only matters if it produces enquiries, and you need to see which pages produce them.

How long it takes and when to get help

A new domain earns trust slowly. Expect the first movement on low-competition searches within weeks of publishing proper pages, and expect competitive city-wide terms to take months of steady work. Do not rebuild the site on a different platform hoping for a shortcut. You would restart the clock and keep the same gap.

Wix has limits at the high end: very large catalogs, complex custom features, and heavy code are easier elsewhere. For a service business with a few dozen pages, those limits do not apply.

If you want the pages written and the listings built for you, SearchPod builds them at $50 a page, ten pages a month minimum, no setup fee, cancel any month. We work inside your Wix editor and connect the tracking so you can see the leads, not just the rankings.
