Questions, answered plainly

Start with the three notes new students ask about most: props, heat, and injuries. Then find your question below, or call the desk.

Plain notes on props, heat and injuries

General information, not medical advice. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or are recovering from an injury, check with your health care provider before starting.

Your first class

I have never done yoga. Which class should I take?

Anything marked Beginner on the schedule: Basics, Slow Flow, Restorative or the Start Here series. All levels classes also welcome new students; they just move a little quicker.

What should I bring?

Water and comfortable clothes you can move in. Mats and towels are free during your intro. For heated classes, add a large towel and a full water bottle.

When should I arrive?

About 15 minutes early for your first class. You will sign in, see the change rooms, and meet your teacher before the room fills.

Will I be the only beginner?

Almost never. Most classes have at least one person on their first or second visit. Teachers give a beginner option for every pose.

Heat

How hot are the heated classes?

Warm classes are 27 to 29°C. Hot Flow and Hot Hatha run at 33 to 37°C. The schedule shows the heat for every class.

Who should skip heated classes?

Anyone pregnant, anyone with a heart condition or very high or low blood pressure, and anyone who feels unwell that day. If you take medicine that affects how you handle heat, ask your doctor first.

Can I leave the room during a hot class?

Yes, any time. The door is never locked. Step out, cool down in the hallway, and come back in when you are ready.

Props and gear

Do I need my own mat?

No. Mats are free on your intro and $2 to rent after that. Members can keep a mat in a cubby for $15 a month.

Are props clean?

Yes. Blocks and straps are wiped after every class. Blankets and bolster covers are washed weekly.

What is the card at my mat for?

It is a consent card. Green side up means hands-on help is welcome. Flip it to 'no thanks' and your teacher will only use words.

Injuries, health and pregnancy

I have an injury. Can I still come?

Usually, yes. Tell your teacher before class and they will give you options. For a new or serious injury, please see a health professional first. We are yoga teachers, not physiotherapists.

Is yoga safe during pregnancy?

For most people, with your care provider's okay. Take Prenatal or unheated classes, and tell your teacher you are pregnant. Please skip heated rooms.

Can you help with back pain?

Many students with sore backs find gentle classes help them move more easily. We cannot diagnose or treat pain, but June's Slow Flow and Restorative classes are a good place to start.

Memberships and booking

How does the intro offer work?

From $49, you get 21 days of unlimited classes in every style, with free mat and towel rental. It starts on your first class, not the day you buy it.

What happens when my intro ends?

Nothing, unless you choose. There is no auto-renew. If you join a membership before it ends, you get member pricing on your first month.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel up to 8 hours before class. Later than that, a pack or monthly class is used, and unlimited members pay a $10 late fee.

Can I pause my membership?

Yes. Pause up to 2 months a year for travel, injury or a new baby, with one email to the desk.

Teacher training

Do I need to be advanced to join?

No. About a year of regular practice helps, but curiosity matters more than fancy poses. We chat with every applicant first.

How much does training cost?

Tuition is $3,200 to $3,600: the lower price is for full payment by November 1. Payment plans are available.

New here?

Your first three weeks, unlimited.

Try every style and every teacher for 21 days, with a free mat and towel each visit. No auto-renew, no pressure, just class.
