Overview

Overview

In IVF, medicine helps your ovaries grow several eggs at once. The eggs are collected in a short procedure, joined with sperm in our lab, and grown into embryos for a few days. Then one embryo is placed in the uterus, and any others can be frozen for later.

IVF is the most effective fertility treatment for many diagnoses, and it is also the most involved. That is why we map out the whole cycle on paper first, with dates, medicines, visits, and costs, so nothing comes as a surprise.

Who it is for

Often a good fit when

  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
  • Lower egg supply, or age 38 and over
  • Male factor infertility, including very low sperm counts
  • Several IUI cycles that did not work
  • Two-mom families choosing reciprocal IVF
  • Anyone using donor eggs or a gestational carrier

Step by step

What to expect, in order

  1. Month before

    Your plan on paper

A calendar, medicine list, teaching session with your nurse, and a written cost estimate. You sign nothing until it all makes sense.

  2. Days 1 to 12

    Stimulation

About 8 to 14 days of small daily injections at home. Your nurse teaches you how, in person or by video.

  3. Every 2 to 3 days

    Monitoring visits

Short morning ultrasounds and blood draws to adjust your doses. Saturday mornings included.

  4. Retrieval day

    Egg retrieval

A 20 to 30 minute procedure under light sedation. You go home the same morning and rest for the day.

  5. Days 1 to 6 after

    Embryos grow in our lab

Our embryologists update you on day 1, day 3, and day 5 or 6. You will always know how many embryos are growing.

  6. Transfer day

    Embryo transfer

A gentle, five-minute procedure without sedation. It can happen fresh, or in a later cycle with a frozen embryo.

  7. About 9 to 11 days later

    Pregnancy test

A blood test, and a call from your nurse with the result. We plan the next steps together, whatever it says.

Included in your plan

  • Your cycle plan, teaching session, and nurse coordinator
  • All monitoring ultrasounds and bloodwork
  • Egg retrieval with sedation
  • Lab work: fertilization, embryo culture, and daily updates
  • Your first embryo transfer and pregnancy test
  • One year of embryo storage
