About this care
Annual exams at Hollin
A well-woman visit is more than a Pap test. In fact, most people do not need a Pap test every year anymore. We follow the current screening schedule for your age and history, and tell you when you are due, so you are not tested more than you need.
The rest of the visit is yours. Bring the questions you have been saving up. We would rather hear about the thing that has been bothering you for months than have you wait for it to get worse.
This visit is for you if
- It has been a year or more since your last checkup
- You want to talk about periods, birth control, sex or fertility
- You are due for cervical screening, or you are not sure
- You are 13 to 15 and coming for a first visit (usually just a talk, no exam)
What is included
- Time to talk, with a clinician who has read your chart first
- Blood pressure, weight and a breast exam when it is useful
- A pelvic exam only when it is needed, and only with your OK
- Pap and HPV testing on the schedule guidelines recommend
- STI testing when you ask for it, no questions
- Referrals for mammograms and bone density scans when you are due
How the visit goes
-
Before
Quick forms online
A short health history and a list of your medicines. If something is on your mind, write it in the box and your clinician will see it first.
-
Talk first
You start, dressed
We talk before any exam, with you fully dressed. You can ask for a chaperone or bring someone with you any time.
-
Exam
Only what is needed
We explain each step before we do it. You can ask us to pause or stop, and we will.
-
After
Results in your portal
Normal results arrive in your patient portal with a plain note. If something needs a follow-up, a nurse calls you.

Your care team
Who you'll see
Do I need a Pap test every year?
Usually not. Depending on your age and history, screening is every three or five years. We keep track and tell you when you are due.
Can I have a chaperone?
Always. A trained staff member can join any exam. You can also bring a partner, friend or family member.
Can I come in if I have my period?
Yes, for most visits. If you are due for a Pap test and your flow is heavy, call us and we will help you decide whether to move the visit.
