About this care
Prenatal care at Hollin
Pregnancy brings a lot of appointments and a lot of questions. We keep both simple: a clear visit schedule, a team of four clinicians you will get to know, and a nurse line that calls you back the same day.
Most of your visits happen at whichever office is closer. Your scans happen in our own ultrasound suite, and when it is time, you deliver with our team at the birth center at Willowmere Medical Center.
This visit is for you if
- You have a positive pregnancy test, or you think you might be pregnant
- You are moving to Richmond and want to transfer your care mid-pregnancy
- You had a hard pregnancy or a loss before and want extra time to talk
- You are planning a pregnancy and want a visit before you start trying
What is included
- A first visit of about 45 minutes, with your history, labs and a dating ultrasound when it is needed
- Regular visits on the schedule below, at either office
- Screening and testing options explained before you decide
- Your 20-week anatomy scan in our own ultrasound suite
- A birth plan conversation, and hospital pre-registration done with you
- A check-in within three weeks of birth, then a full postpartum visit
Week by week
Your visit schedule, week by week
Every pregnancy is different, and we adjust the schedule to yours. This is the usual rhythm.
-
Phase 1 · Weeks 6 to 10
Your first visits
We confirm the pregnancy and the due date, go through your health history, order first labs and talk through the screening options. Bring your questions. Nothing is too small.
-
Phase 2 · Weeks 11 to 27
Monthly visits
Short visits to check your blood pressure, weight and baby's heartbeat. Your anatomy ultrasound happens around week 20, and the glucose screen between weeks 24 and 28.
-
Phase 3 · Weeks 28 to 36
Every two weeks
We talk about your birth preferences, the Tdap vaccine, signs of preterm labor and when to call. You pre-register at Willowmere with our help.
-
Phase 4 · Week 36 to birth
Every week
Group B strep test, position checks and a plan for labor. You will know exactly who to call, and when, day or night.
-
Phase 5 · After birth
The fourth trimester
A check-in within three weeks, then a full postpartum visit covering healing, feeding, mood, sleep and birth control. Your mental health matters here as much as your body.

Your care team
Who you'll see
When should I book my first prenatal visit?
Call us when you get a positive test. Most first visits happen between weeks 6 and 10. If you have a health condition, take regular medicines or had a problem in an earlier pregnancy, tell us when you book and we may see you sooner.
Can I transfer my prenatal care to Hollin mid-pregnancy?
Yes, usually up to about 34 weeks. We ask your current office to send your records before your first visit with us, so nothing has to be repeated.
Will my own doctor deliver my baby?
One of our four delivering clinicians is always on call at Willowmere. You meet all of them during your pregnancy, so the person at your birth is someone you have already seen.
Can my partner or a support person come to visits?
Yes. Partners, family members and doulas are welcome at visits and scans. Kids can come too, though for the anatomy scan a second adult helps.
