ADHD evaluations
A careful look at focus and attention for adults and kids, with rating scales, history, and a clear answer.
Trouble with focus can come from ADHD, and it can also come from anxiety, depression, poor sleep, or a stressful season. A good ADHD evaluation looks at all of it. Ours combines a detailed history, standard rating scales from you and people who know you, and a review of school or work records when you have them.
People often reach out when
- You have struggled with focus, organisation, or deadlines for as long as you can remember
- Teachers have raised attention or restlessness more than once
- You lose things, start many tasks, and finish few, and it is costing you at work or school
- A family member was diagnosed with ADHD and you recognise yourself in their story
- You were diagnosed years ago and want a fresh look before restarting treatment
What happens, step by step
-
Step 1: Questionnaires before the visit
We send rating scales for you and, for kids, for a parent and a teacher. They take about 20 minutes each.
-
Step 2: Evaluation visit
A 90-minute visit covering childhood history, current challenges, sleep, mood, and health. Kids and teens come with a parent.
-
Step 3: Feedback visit
About a week later, a 30-minute visit to go over what we found, whether ADHD explains it, and what else might.
-
Step 4: A plan you understand
Options can include skills coaching, school or work supports, therapy referrals, and in some cases medication. You choose what to try.
About medication
One possible part of a plan, never a promise
If ADHD is diagnosed, medication is one option among several. Some ADHD medicines are controlled substances, so federal and Virginia rules apply: we check the state prescription monitoring program, follow-ups are regular, and an in-person visit may be required. We do not prescribe at the first visit, and an evaluation is not a promise of any medicine.
When another kind of care fits better
We do not offer full neuropsychological or learning-disability testing. If your evaluation points that way, we will refer you to a psychologist who does.

Questions about ADHD evaluations
Can you diagnose ADHD in one visit?
We prefer two: one to gather the full picture and one to explain it. Rushing a diagnosis is how people end up with the wrong one.
Will I get a stimulant prescription?
Not at the first visit, and never as a promise. If ADHD is diagnosed and medication makes sense, your clinician will talk through stimulant and non-stimulant options, risks, and the rules that apply.
Do I need old school records?
They help but are not required. Report cards with teacher comments are often more useful than test scores.
Ready when you are.
Tell us a little about what is going on and choose an intake time, in person or by video. We check your insurance and confirm everything by phone before your first visit.
