Video visits

Telepsychiatry

The same psychiatric care by secure video, from anywhere in Virginia, including two evenings a week.

A woman at home talks with a clinician on a laptop video call, surrounded by plants

Telepsychiatry means your visit happens on a secure video call instead of in our office. It is the same clinician, the same evaluation, and the same follow-up plan. Many patients mix both: an in-person first visit, then video follow-ups that fit around work and school.

People often reach out when

  • You live outside Richmond but in Virginia
  • Taking time off for an office visit is hard with your job or kids
  • You feel more comfortable talking from home
  • You want an evening time on Tuesday or Thursday
  • Getting to an office is hard because of health, transport, or anxiety itself

What happens, step by step

  1. Step 1: Check your setup

A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, and a private space. No app download; the link opens in your browser.

  2. Step 2: Join from Virginia

Our clinicians are licensed in Virginia, so you need to be in the state during the visit.

  3. Step 3: Same care

Evaluations, follow-ups, and prescriptions work the same way. Prescriptions go to the pharmacy you choose.

  4. Step 4: In person when needed

Some visits work better in the office, such as a child's first evaluation or when a vital-sign check is needed.

Prescriptions by video

Most medicines can be managed by video

Most medicines can be managed by video. Rules for starting some controlled medicines by video change from time to time, so if one is part of your plan, your clinician will tell you whether an in-person visit is needed first.

When another kind of care fits better

Video is not a good fit during a crisis, or when someone needs a physical exam. If the connection fails, your clinician will call you on the phone number in your chart.

Questions about telepsychiatry

Is video as good as in person?

For most psychiatric visits, video works well. If your clinician thinks an in-person visit would be better for something specific, they will say so.

Is it private?

We use a secure, health-privacy compliant video service. We ask you to join from a private space and we do the same.

Can I join from my car or work?

From a parked car or a private office, yes. Please not while driving, and not from a place where others can hear you.

See us from home.

Tell us a little about what is going on and choose an intake time, in person or by video. We check your insurance and confirm everything by phone before your first visit.
