The story of the house

The Parkline is the building Alderport architects point at when asked what the 1930s got right. Residence 27 holds the park elevation: forty feet of windows over the elm canopy, with the light moving across the room the way it only does above trees.

The renovation is recent and reverent — herringbone oak relaid over new systems, original bronze window hardware restored rather than replaced, and a kitchen that hides its machinery behind fluted walnut.

It went under offer in nine days at a number I am not yet allowed to print. Ask me about it; the story is instructive if you own a prewar home anywhere near the park.

Worth noticing

  • 40 ft of park-facing glass over the elm canopy
  • Restored 1931 bronze window hardware
  • Herringbone oak over all-new systems
  • Fluted-walnut concealed kitchen
  • Full-service prewar cooperative, private storage
