Google Sites to WordPress

Move beyond a Workspace add on.

Google Sites is often chosen simply because a business already pays for Google Workspace, not because it was built to be a real marketing site. We move it to WordPress with the SEO controls it never had.

  • A full manual content pull since Google Sites has no proper export
  • Custom domain and Search Console verification carried over cleanly
  • A real blog structure built where Sites only had static pages

What moving off Google Sites actually involves

Google Sites was never built to be the whole website.

The content pull

Google Sites has no proper full site export, so we go through every page manually, copying text, images, and any embedded Google Forms or Maps content directly from the live site rather than trusting an automated tool.

The domain and Search Console handoff

A custom domain on Google Sites is verified through Google Workspace's own domain settings, tied to the same verification used for company email. We carry that verification history over cleanly so Search Console data is not lost.

The real site structure

Sites has no native blog or CMS structure, just a handful of static pages. We build a proper page hierarchy and blog on WordPress where none existed, giving the business room to add content going forward.

Launch acceptance checks

Before cutover we confirm every existing page has a working redirect, any embedded form still delivers submissions, and the domain's email through Workspace keeps working since the two share the same underlying domain settings.

What Google Sites does that WordPress will not do the same way

SEO controls were always limited

Google Sites offers only basic meta description support, no native 301 redirect tool, and no custom robots.txt control, which is exactly the control a growing business needs once organic search starts to matter.

The domain setup runs through Workspace, not DNS alone

Connecting a custom domain to Google Sites ties into Workspace's own domain verification, the same one used for company email. We are careful not to disrupt that when moving the website piece specifically.

There is no CMS to speak of

Sites holds a handful of static pages with no post system underneath them. Any blog or regularly updated content needs to be built from nothing on WordPress, not migrated from an equivalent structure.

Embedded Google tools need their own plan

Embedded Google Forms, Maps, or Calendar widgets common on a Sites page need to be recreated or reconnected individually on WordPress, since they were embedded rather than native to begin with.

How the move runs

01

Pull the content manually

We copy every page and embedded element directly from the live Google Sites page, since no full export exists.

02

Build the real structure

Pages are rebuilt on WordPress with a proper navigation and blog structure Sites never had.

03

Cutover and verify

We carry over domain verification carefully, confirm forms still deliver, and check that company email through Workspace is unaffected.
