Implementations / Enhanced Conversions
Set up enhanced conversions for your Shopify store.
A gclid alone can get lost when a browser blocks cookies or a customer switches devices between the ad click and the purchase. Enhanced conversions add hashed customer details as a second way to match that same sale back to the ad. The same approach applies whether your store sees mostly first time buyers or a large share of repeat customers.

The workflow
From a checkout to a stronger match.
The field map
At checkout, Shopify captures the customer's email and phone number alongside the order. Enhanced conversions takes those fields, along with the order value and currency, and prepares them to send to Google Ads alongside the standard click based conversion. A guest checkout, where the customer never creates an account, still qualifies, since the data comes from the order itself.
The identity match
The customer's email and phone are hashed on the browser or server side before they ever leave for Google, so raw personal data is not transmitted in the clear. That hashed value becomes a second signal Google can match against, alongside the gclid. We confirm at setup which fields your version of the channel app supports for hashing.
Where the data enters
Shopify's Google and YouTube channel app supports enhanced conversions for web as part of its checkout tracking setup, sending the hashed data at the same moment the standard purchase conversion fires. We test this on a real completed order, since some hashing behaviour only shows up on a live checkout.
How failures surface
If a customer has not granted marketing consent through your store's cookie banner or consent management setup, enhanced conversion data cannot legally be sent for that order, and the purchase falls back to whatever the standard conversion tracking already captures. We check your consent category names during the build, since a mismatch can silently block the feature.
What makes this hold up over time.
Access we need first
Admin access to your Shopify store's Google and YouTube channel app settings, and access to Google Ads to confirm enhanced conversions is enabled on the right conversion action. Your store's billing setup is not something this particular build touches.
What gets delivered
Enhanced conversions for web turned on and verified against a real order, a check that your consent banner correctly gates the feature, and a written note on what match rate improvement realistically looks like without promising a number. We document the exact consent category this feature depends on.
The acceptance test
We complete one live purchase on your store and check the resulting conversion sent to Google Ads for the hashed data, then confirm Google Ads' own diagnostics tool shows the enhanced conversion status as active, not just configured. If the status is not active on the first check, we keep working until it is.
What is out of scope
The design and wording of your consent banner is a legal and design decision for your business, not ours to set. We build to whatever consent state your banner produces, and a full consent banner review beyond this feature is separate work we can point you toward.
How the setup runs.
01
Audit
We check whether standard Shopify conversion tracking is already working correctly, since enhanced conversions builds on top of that, and whether a consent banner is currently in place on your store.
02
Build
We turn on enhanced conversions for web in your Google and YouTube channel app settings, confirm hashing is applied correctly, and verify consent gating is working as expected.
03
Verify
We place a real test order and check Google Ads' own diagnostics tool confirms the enhanced conversion is active and receiving matched data before we call the setup finished.
Shopify enhanced conversions FAQ.
Yes. Enhanced conversions adds hashed customer data alongside your existing click based tracking, it does not replace it. If standard tracking is not working correctly, we fix that first before adding this on top.
No. Email and phone are hashed before they leave your store, which is a one way transformation, not encryption that can be reversed. Google matches the hash against its own hashed records rather than seeing the raw data.
We cannot promise a specific improvement, since it depends on how much of your traffic already matches on gclid alone. What it does is give Google Ads a second signal for the sales that would otherwise go unmatched, which tends to matter more on stores with a lot of mobile or repeat-device traffic.
Shopify has been changing how third party scripts run on checkout and order status pages, and we say plainly that this needs re-testing after any such Shopify platform update, rather than assuming a one time setup lasts forever.
