Our story

A family business, on purpose

Ruth and Alan Marsh spent two years looking for a place for Ruth's father. They found beautiful lobbies and confusing price sheets, and very few places where staff stayed long enough to learn his name. So they built one.

Hazelbrook opened in 2009 with 40 suites. The Orchard followed in 2017, after families kept asking us not to send their parents elsewhere when memory loss progressed. Their daughter now runs the board, and Helen Okafor runs the house.

How we work

Four things we will not trade away

The people you will meet

The faces behind the care plan, the calendar and the soup.

Join the team
  • Helen Okafor

    Executive director

Helen has worked in senior living for 18 years, starting as a care aide. She still eats lunch in the dining room most days.

  • Priya Raman, RN

    Director of care

Priya leads the nursing team and writes every care plan with families. She spent ten years in a hospital geriatric unit before joining us.

  • Tomás Varga

    Lead, The Orchard memory care

Tomás trains every new Orchard care partner. Ask him about the baking group. He will tell you about it for twenty minutes.

  • Claire Dubois

    Family advisor

Claire is the person who answers the phone and gives most of our tours. She helped move her own father into memory care in 2019.

  • Marco Lindqvist

    Head chef

Marco cooked in restaurants for 15 years. Now he plans menus with residents and still makes the soup from scratch.

  • June Abernathy

    Life enrichment director

June runs the calendar, the bus and the choir. She asks every new resident what they loved doing at 40, and builds from there.

A care aide and an older man laugh together in a common room

Families do not need us to be perfect. They need us to tell them the truth, call when something changes, and treat their mother like she is still the most interesting person in the room. Because she is.
