Memory care · The Orchard
Memory care neighbourhood
The Orchard: a secured, single-level neighbourhood built for people living with dementia.
$7,600–$9,800 a month
A different place, built around how dementia changes the day
The Orchard is our memory care neighbourhood. It is home to 22 residents living with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia, in two small households of 11. It has its own kitchen, lounge, and a walled garden with a looping path.
The doors are secured with a keypad, so residents can move freely without the risk of getting lost. The same care partners work in the same household most days. They are trained in dementia care before their first shift, and every year after.
This may be right when
- Mom has been diagnosed with dementia and living alone no longer feels safe
- Dad has wandered, or tried to leave the house at night
- Assisted living staff say your parent needs more structure
- Days and nights are getting mixed up, and no one at home is sleeping
- You are caring for a spouse with dementia and need help before you burn out
A day in The Orchard
What an ordinary day looks like
-
01
Morning
A slow start. Breakfast is served when each person wakes, not at a fixed bell.
-
02
Midday
Folding laundry, baking, music or a garden walk. Familiar tasks that give the day a shape.
-
03
Afternoon
A quiet hour, then a small group activity matched to each person's abilities.
-
04
Evening
An early dinner, soft lighting and calm music. Late afternoon is often hard, so we plan for it.

Questions families ask
About memory care
How is memory care different from assisted living?
Assisted living gives help with daily tasks. Memory care adds a secured space, staff trained in dementia, a calmer layout and a structured day. People living with dementia often feel less anxious in a smaller, quieter place where faces stay the same.
Can Mom go outside?
Yes. The Orchard's walled garden is open from morning to dusk, with a path that loops back so no one meets a dead end. Staff also take small groups on supervised walks and outings.
What if my parent becomes upset or aggressive?
Distress usually has a cause, like pain, noise, hunger or a change in routine. Our staff are trained to look for the cause first. We call you to talk it through, and we work with your parent's doctor before any change to medication.
