Vaccines

Vaccines protect against diseases that are hard or impossible to treat. We give the core vaccines every dog and cat needs, and we only suggest the extra ones when your pet's lifestyle calls for them, like Bordetella for a dog who boards. If a vaccine isn't needed, we say so.

How it works

What happens, step by step.

  1. A quick exam first

Every vaccine visit starts with an exam, so we know your pet is well enough for the shot today.

  2. A lifestyle chat

Daycare? Cottage weekends? An indoor-only cat? Your answers decide which vaccines make sense.

  3. The shots

Quick, with treats and gentle hands. Most pets barely notice.

  4. Aftercare

A sleepy day or a sore spot is normal. We tell you what isn't, and how to reach us if you're unsure.

Who you'll see

Any of these vets.

"They told me which vaccines Mochi didn't need as an indoor cat. Nobody has ever talked me out of spending money at a vet before."

Questions we hear

Fair questions, plain answers.

Are vaccine reactions common?

Serious reactions are rare. Mild ones, like a sleepy day or a tender spot, are more common and pass on their own. If your pet has facial swelling, hives, repeated vomiting, or trouble breathing after a vaccine, call us right away. After hours, call the 24-hour emergency hospital.

Does my indoor cat need vaccines?

Yes, the core ones. Rabies vaccination is required for cats and dogs in Ontario, and indoor cats can still meet viruses carried in on shoes. Extras like feline leukemia usually aren't needed for an indoor-only adult cat, and we'll tell you so.

My pet's records are from another clinic. Do we start over?

No. Tell us the clinic's name and we'll request the records. We only give what's actually due.
