Migration: BigCommerce to Shopify
Switching from BigCommerce to Shopify, cleanly.
BigCommerce lets you set your own URL paths, so your address structure may already sit close to Shopify's, or nowhere near it. We check which is true for your store before writing a single redirect.
- URL audit before we assume anything transfers
- Every sales channel checked, not just the website
- Free scope within one business day
The entity map
What has to move, channel by channel.
Products, categories, and custom fields
BigCommerce stores custom product fields, brand pages, and category trees that need a mapped home in Shopify's product, collection, and metafield structure. We check which custom fields carry real customer-facing information versus internal notes before deciding what needs a Shopify equivalent.
Connected sales channels
Many BigCommerce stores sync product listings natively to Amazon, eBay, or Walmart from inside the platform. Shopify handles these connections through its own channel apps, so each one gets re-linked and its feed rebuilt rather than assumed to reconnect automatically.
The redirect plan
Because BigCommerce allows custom URL paths, some stores need a light redirect map and others need a full rebuild of every address. We audit your actual live URLs first, since guessing at this stage is how migrations lose traffic.
Tracking that must survive
GA4, Google Ads, and your Google Shopping feed are rebuilt against Shopify's product data and verified firing correctly before the BigCommerce store is retired, so reporting and ad delivery do not go dark mid switch.
What changes moving to Shopify
If your BigCommerce URLs were already customized
we check how close they sit to Shopify's fixed product and collection paths, since a store with clean custom URLs closer to Shopify's structure often needs fewer redirects than one still running BigCommerce's default paths.
If your store runs on a Stencil theme with custom code
we review what that custom code actually does, since page builder logic, custom checkout scripts, and Stencil template overrides do not carry across and need a Shopify Liquid equivalent built and tested.
If your store sells on Amazon, eBay, or Walmart through BigCommerce
we treat those channel connections as their own migration step, since losing that sync silently is one of the most common ways a platform switch quietly costs a store its non-Google revenue.
What we cannot promise
Some BigCommerce apps and B2B features, like customer group specific pricing, do not have a direct Shopify equivalent and may need a different app or workaround. We flag anything like this in the scope before you commit to a date.
How the migration runs
01
Audit every URL and channel
We crawl the live site and inventory every connected sales channel, then build the redirect map and channel reconnection plan together, since they affect each other.
02
Build and test on staging
The new Shopify store is built and checked against the map, including a test sync to each connected channel, before anything is made public.
03
Launch and monitor
Redirects and channel connections go live together, the sitemap is resubmitted, and we track Search Console and channel performance closely through the first weeks.
BigCommerce to Shopify migration FAQ
Not if the reconnection is planned before launch. We rebuild the channel sync against your new Shopify catalogue and test it before the BigCommerce connection is switched off, so listings keep running through the transition.
Only the ones that change. If your BigCommerce URLs already used custom paths close to Shopify's structure, some may not need a redirect at all. We audit your actual live addresses rather than assuming either way.
Customer-facing custom fields, like a size chart or a material spec, get mapped to Shopify metafields so they display the same way. Internal-only fields used for BigCommerce automation get reviewed separately since Shopify handles automation differently.
A store with a modest catalogue and one or two sales channels can move in a few weeks. More connected channels, custom Stencil code, or B2B pricing rules extend the timeline, mostly in testing rather than the build itself.
Price depends on catalogue size and how many outside channels, like Amazon or eBay, need reconnecting. We quote it after reviewing your store, always inside one business day, and never add a markup once work begins.
