What we set up
The pieces that make revenue reporting trustworthy.
Funnel event mapping
We map the events GA4 expects, view item, add to cart, begin checkout, and purchase, to the actual steps in your store's buying flow.
Data layer or native integration
We use your platform's native integration where one exists, like a Shopify or WooCommerce plugin, or build a custom data layer where it does not.
Item data accuracy
We confirm each event sends accurate item details, the product name, price, and quantity, so revenue and product performance reports are trustworthy.
Refund and cancellation handling
We set up the refund event where your platform supports it, so a cancelled order does not sit in your revenue numbers forever.
What this project needs, and how we prove the numbers match.
Access we need
Admin or developer access to your store platform or Google Tag Manager, and a way to place a real test order without charging a real card.
What is delivered
A working ecommerce funnel in GA4, item data confirmed accurate on a test order, and purchase marked as a key event in your GA4 property.
The acceptance test
We place a test order and confirm the purchase event shows up in GA4 debug view with the correct revenue, item names, and quantity, not just a page view.
Out of scope
We do not connect this to Google Merchant Center or build your shopping ads feed as part of this project. Those are separate setups we can scope alongside it.
How the setup runs.
01
Map the buying flow
We walk through your actual checkout, product page to order confirmation, and note where each GA4 event needs to fire.
02
Build and connect
We use a native plugin where available or a custom data layer where not, and connect it to your GA4 property.
03
Test with a real order
We place a test order, verify every event and its data in debug view, then mark purchase as a key event.
GA4 ecommerce tracking, answered.
It depends on your platform. Shopify and WooCommerce often have a native GA4 integration or plugin that gets you most of the way there. A fully custom site usually needs a developer to add the data layer.
Differences usually come from refunds not being subtracted, currency conversion, or tax and shipping being included in one tool and excluded in the other. We check for all three during setup.
GA4's standard ecommerce events are built around one time purchases, but many subscription platforms fire a purchase event on the first charge and can be adapted to track renewals as a separate event.
We can set up tracking per channel, an online store and a separate booking or ordering tool, though each channel with a different platform needs its own integration work.
This setup tracks what happens on your site in GA4. A Merchant Center feed is a separate product catalog you send to Google so your products can appear in shopping ads, and it is scoped separately.
