Migration: Magento to Shopify
Moving off Magento without losing your rankings.
Magento stores earn rankings on thousands of URLs: products, categories, and layered navigation filters. Shopify structures its addresses differently. We map every one of those URLs before your store changes address.
- Full URL inventory before we touch anything
- Redirect map deployed the moment you go live

The entity map
Every piece of your catalogue, tracked and moved.
Pages, products, and variants
Every Magento product, its configurable variants, and every category page get a Shopify equivalent before launch. Magento often builds separate URLs per store view or filtered layered navigation combination, and those get audited too, since a filtered URL that earned links or rankings still needs somewhere to land.
Media and product content
Product descriptions, image files with their alt text, and any CMS blocks used on category pages get carried across, not rebuilt from scratch. Magento image paths are structured differently from Shopify's, so filenames and alt text are checked individually rather than assumed to transfer with the export.
The redirect plan
A 301 written for every old URL, pointed at its closest new Shopify address. Magento's .html suffix and layered navigation query strings both need their own redirect rules, since a generic wildcard rule misses the filtered combinations that sometimes carry real search traffic.
Tracking that must survive
GA4, Google Ads conversion tags, and your Merchant Center product feed all get reconnected on the new platform. A Magento store running Google Shopping needs its feed rebuilt against Shopify's product data before the old feed is retired, so ads do not go dark during the switch.
What Shopify does differently
Forced URL structure
Shopify puts every product under /products/ and every category under /collections/, with no option to remove those segments. A Magento store built on clean, prefix-free URLs will see every address change, which is exactly why the redirect map carries the whole migration.
Layered navigation does not carry over
Magento's layered navigation can generate a filtered URL for nearly any combination of size, colour, and price. Shopify's native filtering does not create separate crawlable URLs the same way, so any filtered page that ranked on its own needs a deliberate decision: redirect it to the matching collection, or rebuild it as a Shopify collection with its own filter set.
Multi-store views become separate approaches
A Magento instance running several store views for different regions or languages does not map one to one onto Shopify. Depending on the setup, that becomes separate Shopify markets, a multi-currency single store, or, less often, separate Shopify stores, and the URL and redirect plan changes depending on which path we take.
What we cannot promise
We cannot promise every custom Magento extension has a Shopify equivalent. Some functionality, like certain B2B pricing tiers or custom checkout logic, may need an app or a different approach on Shopify. We will tell you plainly where that is the case before you commit to a launch date.
How the migration runs
01
Crawl and map
We crawl the live Magento store, cross-check Search Console and analytics for every URL earning traffic or links, and build the full old-to-new redirect map before any build work starts.
02
Build and test on staging
The Shopify store is built with a password on it while products, content, and tracking are checked page by page against the map, so nothing goes live half finished.
03
Launch and monitor
Redirects go live the moment DNS switches, the sitemap is resubmitted, and we watch Search Console daily for the first weeks to catch anything the map missed.
Magento to Shopify migration FAQ
Not automatically. Magento reviews live in its own database and need to be exported and imported into a Shopify review app, or rebuilt if the review data cannot be matched cleanly. We check what your current setup allows before promising a full transfer.
Your Merchant Center account itself does not need to be recreated, but the feed does need to be rebuilt against Shopify's product data and reconnected before the Magento feed is turned off, so your Shopping ads keep running without a gap.
It depends on catalogue size and how many custom Magento features are involved. A smaller catalogue can launch in a few weeks; a large one with many filtered URLs and custom extensions takes longer, mostly in the mapping and testing stage rather than the Shopify build itself.
There is no flat number, since a catalogue with hundreds of products and a dozen layered filters takes more mapping than a small one. We price it after the crawl and send the figure inside one business day, with nothing added later.
