Platforms / Squarespace SEO

Squarespace SEO for sites that look good but stay quiet in search.

Squarespace sites tend to be beautiful and thin. A gallery, a few lines of text and a contact form do not give Google much to rank. Squarespace handles the technical basics well, so most of the gains come from better pages and a few settings people skip. We write those pages and set up the rest.

What changes on Squarespace

The Squarespace tools we use, and the limits we work around.

SEO panels per page and item

Every page, blog post and product has its own SEO title, description and URL slug, and the site has a default title format. A page can also be hidden from search engines with a switch in its settings. We fill these in with real search terms and hide the pages Google should not see, like thank-you and test pages.

Redirects with URL Mappings

Squarespace handles 301 redirects through URL Mappings, found under the developer tools in settings, where you list old and new paths. It is plain text, easy to break with one typo. We write and test every mapping when pages are renamed or merged, and whenever a site moves onto Squarespace from somewhere else.

Schema through Code Injection

Squarespace adds basic structured data on its own, but not the LocalBusiness, service or FAQ detail a local business needs. Code Injection, available on plans that include it, lets us add JSON-LD site-wide or on a single page. We keep schema on the page it describes so it always matches what is written there.

What you cannot change

Squarespace writes your robots.txt and sitemap.xml for you, and you cannot edit the robots file directly. The server and hosting are theirs too. That is fine for most small sites. It means our work goes into pages, titles, internal links and image weight, the things you do control.

Bookings, tracking and what $50 a page buys.

Squarespace Scheduling bookings

Salons, therapists and studios often book through Squarespace Scheduling, which grew out of Acuity. A booking is the real conversion, not the contact form. We set it up so each booking reaches GA4 and Google Ads with its source, and the built-in cookie banner decides when tags may run.

Speed from the design

Squarespace resizes images for you, but full-width video headers, large galleries and several font families still slow pages down. We check Core Web Vitals on your key pages and lighten the heaviest sections without changing the look you chose.

What $50 a page buys

One page for one search, like "prenatal massage" or "wedding florist", with enough real text to answer the question, a short FAQ, and links to your booking page. Service pages come first, then the questions clients ask before they book.

Out of scope, and when to move

Redesigns, new templates and photography are separate. If you need features Squarespace cannot give you, we quote a move with full redirects. Most service businesses we see can grow on Squarespace for a long time.
