Migration: Hosting Without Downtime

Move hosts while the site stays live.

The real risk in a hosting move is not the copy, it is the gap: an order placed, a form submitted, or a booking made in the exact window the data is being transferred between hosts. We plan the cutover so that gap never opens.

  • Old host stays live until the new one is proven
  • Transactional data checked for the exact cutover window
  • Free scope within one business day

The entity map

Everything that has to move without a gap.

Files, database, and the cutover window

Files and a first database copy move early, while the site keeps running normally on the old host. Right before cutover, a final sync captures anything that changed since, since orders, form submissions, or bookings placed in that gap are exactly what a rushed migration loses.

Running both hosts in parallel

The new host is built and tested under a temporary address while the live site stays fully operational on the old one. Nothing public changes until the new copy passes every check, so visitors never see a host that is not ready yet.

The DNS cutover

DNS is switched only once the new host is verified working end to end, and the record's TTL is lowered ahead of time so the world's browsers pick up the new address quickly instead of trickling over for days.

Launch acceptance checks

Every form, checkout flow, and booking path is tested live on the new host, email is confirmed sending and receiving, and Search Console is checked in the days after for any crawl errors the move introduced.

What actually causes downtime in a hosting move

If your site takes orders, bookings, or form submissions

we treat the final data sync as the highest-risk moment in the whole move, since anything submitted between the last copy and the DNS switch can be lost if that window is not handled deliberately.

If your DNS record has a long TTL set

we lower it days ahead of the actual cutover, since a long TTL means some visitors keep reaching the old host for hours or days after the switch, which can create a split period where two hosts are both technically live.

If your email runs through the same provider as your hosting

we plan its move as carefully as the website's, since email and web hosting sometimes share infrastructure in a way that is easy to overlook until mail stops delivering mid-move.

What we cannot promise

We cannot promise a platform change bundled into the same move carries zero risk, since changing hosts and changing software at the same time multiplies what can go wrong. Where possible, we recommend separating the two.

How the move runs

01

Copy and build on the new host

Files and database move to the new host under a temporary address while the live site keeps running untouched.

02

Freeze and sync before cutover

A final sync captures any changes since the first copy, timed around a planned low-traffic window to minimize what needs re-syncing.

03

Cut over and verify

DNS switches once the new host is proven, every form and flow is tested live, and the old host stays available as a fallback until everything checks out.
