Recovery: Google Ads
The leads are coming in and most of them are not real buyers.
Junk leads usually trace back to one setting: a match type left too broad, an audience signal that is too loose, or a form that asks nothing that would disqualify a tire kicker. We find which one before changing your budget.
- Lead by lead review, not a guess
- Written cause before any changes
- No cost to see the scope
Evidence, then action
How we find where the noise enters
The evidence we pull first
We pull the search terms report where available, the lead form responses if you use one, and a sample of the actual leads you marked as junk, matched back to which campaign and keyword sent them. The pattern usually shows up fast once real leads are lined up against the setting that sent them.
The triage order
First we check match types and negative keywords, since broad match with a thin negative list is the most common source of unrelated clicks. Next we check audience signals on Performance Max or Display, then geographic targeting, then the qualifying questions on the form itself.
What usually fixes it
Tightening match types, adding negatives built from the actual junk leads you already have, narrowing the geographic radius to where you truly serve, and adding one or two qualifying questions to the form filters out most of the noise within a few weeks.
What we cannot promise
We cannot promise every lead will be a perfect fit, since some level of unqualified interest is normal in any lead form. We can promise a lower share of clearly wrong leads and a written record of exactly what changed to get there.
The decision tree we run
If junk leads share a pattern in location
we check the geographic radius and the presence versus interest setting, since leads from outside your service area often trace back to a targeting option left on the wrong choice.
If leads come in fast but never answer the phone
we check whether the campaign runs on Performance Max or Display with a lead form extension, since these formats can auto fill contact details with less intent behind them than a typed search.
If the search terms report shows unrelated queries
we check the match type on the triggering keyword, since broad match without a strong negative list will pull in tangential searches sharing only a word or two with your offer.
If leads pass the form but fail on the first call
we check what the form actually asks, since a form with only a name and phone number gives your sales team nothing to prequalify with before dialing.
How the engagement runs
01
A sample review of your junk leads
We ask for ten to twenty recent leads you already flagged as poor fits, matched to the campaign and keyword that sent them.
02
A written pattern and cause
You get a plain summary of what these leads have in common and which setting is most likely responsible.
03
Changes, then a quality check
We make the agreed changes and review the next batch of leads against the same criteria to confirm the pattern actually improved.
Junk leads questions
Not necessarily. Some junk leads are normal in almost every account, and even well run campaigns pull in a portion of unqualified interest. What matters is the rate. If most of your leads are unusable, that usually points to a specific setting, not a broad failure.
It can be, mainly because Performance Max runs across more placements at once and gives you less direct control over where a lead form appears. That is not a reason to avoid it outright, but audience signals and exclusions matter more than they do in a tightly built Search campaign.
Yes, that is one of the fastest ways to find the pattern. A list of leads you already know were poor fits, matched to campaign and keyword, often points straight at the setting causing it, faster than guessing from the ads account alone.
Usually, at least at first. The goal is fewer leads that are more likely to become customers, not the largest possible number. We will be plain with you about that tradeoff before making the change.
The lead sample review and written cause are part of a free proposal within one business day. Ongoing Google Ads management runs 10% of the budget you set each month, minimum $600, and we never add a markup on top of your spend.
