Key facts
- Five prompts were run once each on 2026-09-26 through gpt-5.1 with the web search tool on: physiotherapy clinic near downtown Toronto, best chiropractor in Vancouver for back pain, walk-in clinic recommendations in Calgary, dermatologist accepting new patients in Chicago, and best med spa in Dallas for laser hair removal.
- The model attached 35 citations across the five answers, and every prompt had at least five.
- The Toronto physiotherapy prompt cited seven hosts, all physiotherapy clinics' own websites, and the answer listed those clinics by name with their downtown locations.
- The Calgary walk-in prompt cited one host nine times, clinicfinder.ca, and listed seven clinics by quadrant with notes on late hours, all drawn from that finder; no clinic site was cited.
- The Chicago dermatology prompt cited doctor.webmd.com, healthgrades.com, zocdoc.com and a Solv booking page alongside two practice sites; the Dallas med spa prompt cited two med spa directories, a ratings aggregator and a Reddit thread, and no med spa's own site.
What we asked and how the study works
On 2026-09-26 we sent five healthcare prompts, one run each, to gpt-5.1 with its web search tool on, and recorded every URL the model attached to its answer. We sorted each cited host by type with our own simple rules: a clinic's own site, a directory, review or booking site, a news, reference or government site, Reddit, or social. The sorting is ours; the hosts are what the model attached.
The prompts were written the way a patient would type them: physiotherapy clinic near downtown Toronto, best chiropractor in Vancouver for back pain, walk-in clinic recommendations in Calgary, dermatologist accepting new patients in Chicago, and best med spa in Dallas for laser hair removal.
What each prompt cited
Toronto physiotherapy: seven citations to seven clinic sites, acephysio.ca, higherground.ca, mytorontophysio.com, rebalancetoronto.com, rosedalewellness.com, sohophysio.com and a page of integrahealth.ca. The answer named those clinics with their downtown locations and asked the reader about specific needs.
Vancouver chiropractor: five citations, to clinicly.ca and sportsclinicfinder.com, two finders, healthlinkbc.ca, the provincial health information service, reviews.birdeye.com, and one clinic's own site, omnihealthvancouver.com. The answer named a few clinics and told the reader to look at review patterns rather than stars and to consider physiotherapy or a team clinic too.
Calgary walk-in: nine citations, all to clinicfinder.ca. The answer listed seven clinics by quadrant with notes such as open late, and told the reader to check live information before going. Chicago dermatology: seven citations, to doctor.webmd.com, healthgrades.com, zocdoc.com, a Solv booking page, and two practice sites, kaminskadermatology.com and tonedermatology.com. Dallas med spa laser hair removal: seven citations, to discovermedspa.com, medspascout.com, trustanalytica.org and reddit.com, with no med spa's own site cited.
The pattern: the kind of clinic decided the source
Independent clinics with detailed sites, the downtown Toronto physiotherapy practices, were cited directly and named from their own pages. Walk-in clinics, whose hours change and whose sites are thin, were answered entirely from a clinic finder that aggregates them. Specialists that patients book through platforms, dermatologists, were answered from WebMD, Healthgrades, Zocdoc and a booking service, with practice sites in a supporting role. Med spas were answered from two niche directories, a ratings aggregator and Reddit, and not from any med spa's site.
By our sorting, 23 of the 35 citations were directory, review or booking sites, nine were clinics' own sites, two were reference or government sites and one was Reddit. Seven of the nine own-site citations came from the physiotherapy prompt alone.
What a clinic can do with this
The directories the model cited are specific to each clinic type: the clinic finders for walk-in care in Canada, Healthgrades, WebMD and Zocdoc for physicians in the US, the med spa directories and review aggregators for aesthetics. Being listed accurately on the ones that apply to your clinic type is the first step, with hours kept current because the model reads them.
The second step is what the physiotherapy result shows: a clinic site that states its location, services and who it treats plainly can be cited directly and named from its own page. The third is the model's own advice, review patterns over star counts, what laser or technique is used and for which skin types, whether new patients are accepted, all of which are questions a clinic's pages can answer. SearchPod builds those pages for clinic clients within the advertising rules for regulated health professions and tracks which prompts cite them with a fixed prompt panel.
What this cannot tell you
One model, one run per prompt, one date, five prompts. Different days, models or wording would give different citations, and the host sorting is ours. The clinics the model named are recorded only as what it said; nothing on this page verifies or endorses any clinic, and nothing here is medical advice.
Related questions
Nine of 35 citations, and seven of those came from the Toronto physiotherapy prompt, where every citation was a clinic site. The walk-in, dermatology and med spa prompts were answered mostly or entirely from finders, directories, booking platforms and review aggregators.
A Canadian clinic finder for Calgary walk-in clinics, two finders and the provincial health service for Vancouver chiropractors, WebMD, Healthgrades, Zocdoc and a Solv booking page for Chicago dermatologists, and two med spa directories plus a ratings aggregator for Dallas laser hair removal.
The model's reasoning is not visible. In the output it cited clinicfinder.ca nine times and built its list of seven clinics by quadrant from that finder, which aggregates hours and locations that individual walk-in clinic sites often do not publish well.
By our own pattern rules, sorting each host as a clinic's own site, a directory, review or booking site, a news, reference or government site, Reddit or social. The rules can be argued with; the hosts are exactly what the model attached.
Be listed accurately with current hours on the finders and directories that fit the clinic type, publish a site that states location, services and who is treated plainly, and answer the model's own questions such as accepted patients and techniques used. SearchPod tracks this for clinic clients with a fixed prompt panel.
